2016 Resolutions Update

I thought I would do a resolution update, as at the beginning of the year I was so passionate about my New Year’s resolutions. I was motivated, looking forward to the new start and I made a mental and physical note of all the things I wanted to achieve this year. As with all things, life does get in the way, and things don’t always pan out how you wanted them to. I thought I would revisit my resolutions just to refresh them in my mind and keep track of my progress.

2016 Resolutions Update

decided-my-2016-starts-on-february-1stthis-was-just-a-trial-month--6ca46

1. Get Fit & Tone Up

Well, where shall I start with this one. The above picture/e-card pretty much sums it up for me. January was a flop, I didn’t go the gym once and I put on 2 pounds. Although I am not concerned at all about the 2 pounds, I was really bummed out at about my overall fitness, I haven’t been eating well or drinking enough water. Exercise has been a foreign word. However I am not being too harsh on myself, I have been so drained of energy and have been struggling with my health all month. I finally had a blood test last week, I suspect my iron levels have dropped quite a bit. I am hoping to sort out my health this month, so fingers crossed I will back on track with this resolution very soon.

2. Fix Blog & Blog More

This is a resolution I am so happy about. So in my New Year’s resolution post I mentioned I have been having issues with my blog for the longest time. It is so disheartening seeing your stats drop unexpectedly and it does sometimes take away the motivation to blog. However I ploughed ahead, and finally, after a bit of SEO help and perseverance, I feel like my blog is doing the best it has ever done! This January was the best month for me since I first started blogging, so it has definitely motivated me to keep at it. I am slowly now going to concentrate on updating parts of my blog and make it prettier. I am okay with the amount of blog posts I have been creating recently as well, but I think I will try to aim for more posts each month.

3. Start Doing More YouTube Videos

Yay, another one that is still on track! So for the month of January I posted new content on my YouTube channel each week, and so far I am happy with how this resolution is going. Ideally I would like to post two videos a week, but I am not going to attempt to run before I walk. Fingers cross, this continues. I’ve inserted my latest video below just in case you were interested to check it out :)

4. Become More Organised

Hmm, I don’t know how I feel about this one. Due to my lack of energy and just feeling unwell, I haven’t managed to get a lot of things done last month. I am not beating myself up about it, but it would have been nicer to feel revamped and ready to tick off every box in my diary. However that being said I am making more lists on my phone of things I need to get done, and I am finding that quite helpful. Oh, I also picked up the book: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying which I have heard so many people rave about. I am hoping reading this will make me tidier and more organised, I can dream right? If you’re thinking of decluttering your home, take a look at these storage sheds for sale.

5. Start Thinking About Settling Down

This is a bit of a funny one, because you can’t just magically make it happen, these things happen when they want to. I feel like I am getting into the headspace of, okay life isn’t going to be just about me forever, I do want to share it with someone but I don’t think I expected to see this goal progress in the space of a month. I think this will develop over the course of the year, and I am hoping I will have more direction with my life by the end of the year. We shall see what happens!

So it terms of progress, I’d say 2.5 out of 5 which is better than nothing right?! I do feel a little let down by my health if I am honest, but I am remaining positive and hoping once I figure out what is wrong I will be okay. I am actually making monthly resolutions now, of little things I want to accomplish each month, because I really think doing this resolution post has helped give me some direction for this year. Here are a few of my February resolutions, bear in mind I am not expecting to master them all!:

  • Post 6 videos this month – potentially do-able
  • Blog 10 times this month – again do-able
  • Work on designing a new header – I need inspiration for this, so need to do some research
  • Lose 2 pounds – might struggle with this one due to how I have been feeling recently, I might swap it with just feel better health wise.
  • Read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying and de-clutter my whole room – maybe not my whole room…
  • Practise wrapping a saree – how can I be a Bengali girl and not know this!

I hope you liked my little 2016 resolution update, I would love to know if you have any resolutions this year and how are you getting along with them? Please let me know if any of my resolutions ring true with you! Tanzina x

My New Years Resolutions

It’s funny how just a random date in the calendar can signify a new beginning for so many millions if not billions of people. It is an opportunity to reflect on the previous year, grab a new slate and start over again. Last year was a funny year for me, in so many ways I ticked off things I wanted to get done, but in other ways I feel like there are heaps I didn’t get done. But I guess that’s why we get to start over again, learn from our mistakes and start a new chapter. I’m not usually one for resolutions, but this year I thought I would write down my new years resolutions and for once, try and stick to them. It’ll be interesting to see if at the end of the year how many I’ve ticked off.

new years resolutions

1. Get Fit & Tone Up

I thought I would start off with the most cliche resolution of all. Just like many many people, I would LOVE to get fit. I would like to tone and finally have a body I am confident of. Last year I gained 11 pounds, and when I weighed myself on the 31st of December, I had finally lost it all! I would now like to lose another couple of pounds but most importantly I would like to tone up and lose that dreaded belly pouch. I have started going to gym classes such as Body Pump and HIIT classes but I only go about once a fortnight which is a bit rubbish. However I am aiming to start going a little more often and also do short toning exercises at home on days I don’t go to the gym.

2. Fix Blog & Blog More

So at the end of 2014 I was loving the way my blog was going, my stats were up and I was feeling more and more motivated to blog. Suddenly my blog just crashed, Google wasn’t sending any traffic my way and it felt like all my motivation was sucked away. However after months and months of patience and SEO work on my blog last month I had finally got it back to where it was. Hooray right? No, not hooray. Just as I had finally fixed my blog I was hacked by a malicious website and although I managed to remove the horrid website now my blog is slow and clunky and it is making my stats go down. I’ve also just noticed some of links have disappeared off Google. I am so worried I will end up where I was in January 2014 but this time I am more prepared and have some experts to help me get my blog back to its old self. I am determined not to let my hard work go down the drain as this blog is truly my passion. So yes, my aim is to make sure my blog is back working like it should be and that I remain consistent with my blogging.

3. Start Doing More YouTube Videos

This one is a little self explanatory, I would love to become consistent with posting YouTube videos. I do enjoy filming them and uploading them but hate editing which has stopped me from uploading as often as I would like but I am going to aim to combat that and upload a little more often. I’ve actually filmed two videos which I am hoping to put up soon. Ideally I would like to post once a week but maybe once every fortnight to start off with initially. We shall see!

4. Become More Organised

I would say in the last 6 months I have become a lot more organised than I used to be, with the aid of a diary, but I often write down things and then don’t accomplish them. I feel the above resolutions will be impossible without being organised as it all goes hand in hand. So yes, I would like to be more organised and actually accomplish the things I plan for my week. I’m starting this year determined. I also want to get my home organised and tackle cleaning jobs where and when they occur. Bissell products make for great additions to your cleaning arsenal; learn more here.

5. Start Thinking About Settling Down

This is a bit of a personal one, as I don’t usually write too much about my personal, family and love life. I am 25 on the 19th of this month and I feel emotionally and mentally ready to get into the ‘I want to settle down’ headspace. I think I have matured quite a bit last year and finally am starting to believe that I am no longer a child and I definitely am a fully fledged adult (unfortunately). So this year I would like to make some definite plans in regards to settling down, I would like to start thinking about marriage and the future. I know it is a bit vague, and I think I intend it to be as I myself don’t fully know what I want exactly, but ideally I would like to start carving out a direction for myself. It might not happen this year, but I would like to start working towards it.

I hope I come back in December 2016 and have at least ticked off 4 of these. 80% success rate is a pretty good success rate in my opinion. I would love to know if you’ve got some resolutions similar to my new years resolutions, I suspect the body related one is going to be a popular one! I’m really glad I’ve noted these down, hopefully this post will serve as a reminder of things I want to accomplish in 2016. Speak soon, Tanzina x

My Holiday Skin Care

Hi loves, I am heading to Bangladesh this month, and I wanted to share some of my packing with you. I would share the makeup I am taking with me, but the list is far too long to try and fit into a blog post. I will be seen as a new bride when I go to Bangladesh to visit my family and my in laws family, meaning there will be lots of dinner parties and events to attend. I thought I would share my holiday skin care with you all, as skin care is so essential and even more so when you are in a foreign environment that your skin is unaccustomed to.

I’m going to whizz through this as I am taking quite a lot of skin care with me, I think I am taking quite a lot of everything with me! I am allowed to take 40KGs with me, but I am a little concerned as to whether I will go way over my limit. Okay back to skin care, let’s start off with the basics.

Face Oil – Triology Rose Hip Oil

Some of you guys may know that I am crazy about face oils, I’ve been using them for over a year now and I think my skin has transformed with that extra kick of moisture. I’ve been using Sunday Riley oils and although they are super effective, they are also super pricey, and I wanted to try affordable brands and see how they compare. I’ve been using a sample of Trilogy Rosehip oil and my skin has been loving it, and for once, my husband doesn’t complain about the scent of my oils every night! Trilogy kindly gifted me a full size to test out so I’m taking it along with me to get a good feel of it. It is their best seller and my experience has been really good so far, so I have high hopes for it. You can pick it up [here] for £19.50

Day Moisturiser – Trilogy Ultra Hydrating Face Cream

This is a completely new moisturiser to me, so I guess it is a bit of a gamble for me to take it along to Bangladesh. However I have heard great things about it, and my skin didn’t react when I tried it for the first time. It contains Rosapene™, manuka honey, lavender and is an award winning product. I am so excited to try it out will do a review once I return.
You can pick it up [here] for £25.50

Night Moisturiser – Trilogy Rosapene Night Cream

Another Triology product, I promise this isn’t a sponsored post. I was gifted a few products from Trilogy literally the day I was going to purchase the items myself, so I am going to take the products along with me to truly test them out. This promises brighter, revitalised skin and comes with great reviews, so again I am excited to try this and report back to you all.
You can pick it up [here] for £29.50

Eye Cream – Keihls Avocado Eye Cream

I picked this little beauty up in the Black Friday sales, and boy am I glad I did. It is ultra-rich, melts beautifully into my skin and really helps my thirsty under eyes. It’s not a cult favourite for no reason, it really is special. If you want a full review on this let me know and I will report back.
You can pick it up [here] for £22.50

Lip Balm – Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream

This can’t be a surprise to my regular readers, I have been raving about 8 Hour cream for years now. This will of course accompany me on my trip abroad. I have written a full review on it before which you can read [here].
You can pick it up [here] for £13.95

Now on to makeup removal, I know I needed to take a few options with me, firstly to help remove the makeup from all the events I attend and also to help my skin get rid of any pollution remnants that may cling to it. Here are the products I am packing:

Cleansing Balm – Sunday Riley Blue Moon Cleansing Balm

Ah, finally a Sunday Riley product. This is one I am trying to use up. It is really rich and gets rid of makeup well, and it has exfoliating bits which gently buff the skin. I’ve been using it for a while now and have had good results, so I will be packing it into my suitcase.
You can pick it up [here] for £46.00

Micellar Water – Bioderma Micellar Water

You must know that this was going to come with me. I’ve been using this for about 7 years now, and it goes everywhere with me. I’ve talked about it a few times on here so I thought I’d link the posts below:

My Top 5 Skin Care Products

You can pick it up [here] for £10.80

L’Oreal Paris Micellar Bi-Phase Water

This is a new find for me, and a new love. I’ve been using Boots Botanics Waterproof Eye Makeup remover for years now, and since I tried this beauty, the Botanic bi-phase remover has been retired from my collection. This is gentle but so effective. I also tried the Garnier version, but this one is much better!
You can pick it up [here] for £5.99

I will be honest, I still have not gotten into the habit of wearing SPF every day. Maybe I should make that a new year’s resolution as I love to complain about how my face seems to be ageing. I don’t think I will be taking SPF for my body, as Bangladesh is a fairly modest clothing company, and I will be indoors too much to worry about getting burnt.

Face SPF – Bioderma Photoderm Aquafluide SPF50+

This is my favourite face SPF. At factor 50, you’re really not playing around. I have always had a problem with SPFs leaving a white cast on my face after application which I desperately hate. This product never gives me any issues.
You can pick it up [here] for £13.10

Finally, face masks. This was a dangerous category, it is so easy to get carried away and take every mask in my collection. I really had to strip it back, and opt for one moisturising mask and one clearing, unclogging mask. My skin needs moisture and sometimes and intense dose so I love moisture masks. However I know my skin may get congested in the humidity of Bangladesh, so I also needed something that would strip my skin of all dirt and impurities. I think I’ll do a post on my favourite masks next month, so keep an eye out for that.

Moisture Mask – Bioderma Hydrabio Mask

I’ve been using this mask for years. It is one I rediscovered recently, after forgetting about it and I am so glad I came across it again. I slather it over my face and once I remove it, I am left with soft hydrated skin. It is one I turn to before special days/events. Sometimes I even fall asleep with it on.
You can pick it up [here] for £15.00

Glow Mask – The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Mask

There has been a huge hype around this mask, and well deserved in my opinion. It leaves my skin feeling so clean, as if it has drawn out all the imourities and got rid of them. I love a clay based mask, and I love how this dries on my skin and makes it tingle. Upon removing it, my skin feels silky and just fresh.
You can pick it up [here] for £17.00

And that is it for my holiday skincare, a little more generous than the average holiday skincare packing – but I am going away for three weeks to a country where none of these products will be available! I genuinely believe the amount of products are completely justified but I am sure there are many that will disagree. Minimal packing is really not my area of expertise. I hope you liked a peek into my holiday skincare, and of course if you have any questions or would like indepth reviews, just let me know. Tanzina x

Wedding Guest Outfit and Makeup Look

Ugh, it has been forever since I last posted on here. I don’t really have an excuse so I am not going to faff on too much about that. Anyway, moving on very swiftly from that, I’ve recently been to quite a few weddings and I wanted to share with you my outfit and makeup from one of the events I attended. I wore a pink saree that is actually very simple but somehow really impactful. You’ll see what I mean in the following pictures.

Wedding Guest Outfit and Makeup Look

One of my new year’s resolution was to learn how to wrap a saree. Unfortunately I still haven’t mastered that yet so I have my mum to thank for the wrapping of this saree. This saree was so made for a wedding, you know when you have a wedding to go to where you aren’t close family, but you still need to make an effort? This saree was made for that. The saree itself is really plain but the blouse is quite a statement piece so it wasn’t too simple for a wedding at all.

The saree itself was from Mongas, they used to have a shop in Luton which is where I picked it up however unfortunately they have now closed this shop down. They have a shop in Southall so that may be worth checking out. I have some bad news for you guys if you are loving this saree – I picked it quite a few months ago so I doubt they will still have it in stock. However Mongas is really worth checking out for party sarees and wedding guest sarees. I think I picked this saree for either £100 or £120.

My earrings are from Bees in Green Street, London. I actually wore them on my Mehndi day. My clutch is from Accessorize.

Now on to things you can pick up. Lets talk through the makeup products I used for the below makeup look.

When I bought this saree, I knew exactly what shadow palette I would use when I finally wear it. The Urban Decay Naked 3 palette was made for this, it has gorgeous pinky toned shadows that just compliment my complexion so well. I love the darker shades at the end of the palette as well as you can create a really nice plum toned smokey eye. I thought since it was a wedding I’d add in some glitter courtesy of a Tom Ford palette that I have but hardly ever use. For my lips, after a long while I decided to turn away from the liquid lipsticks and pick up one of my trusty MAC lipsticks.

Face Makeup

Eye Makeup

Lip Makeup

I hope you liked this post that I’ve created. I was unsure about posting it as the saree is actually no longer available but I thought you might like to see how I styled my outfit and also how I created my makeup look. I know August is peak wedding season for the Asian community and also with Eid around the corner I wanted you guys to get a little inspiration. Let me know what you think of this post and also if you’d like to see more blog posts like this. Speak soon (hopefully), Tanzina x

My Current Hair Favourites

I feel like I haven’t written a current hair favourites post in ages, so I decided today was the day to rectify this. I’ve been switching up my hair care routine recently and I’ve been noticing some positive difference so I thought I would share some of the products I am loving. My hair is long, fine, frizzy, wavy and sometimes really frustrating to work with. It’s not very thick so can end up looking limp, and sometimes lacklustre and dull. It’s not the easiest hair to work with but it is the only hair I have so I have to make the most of what sometimes feels like a dim situation. Here are a few products that have made taming my mane a little easier.

Parlux Powelight 385

For years I have been using a Collexia hair dryer, however I finally switched it up and changed to the Parlux Powelight 385. Oh my god, had I known what I was missing, I would’ve switched earlier. I actually had the Parlux Powelight 385 sitting in a drawer for ages, and I only got it out once I was married. It is SO powerful, and dries my hair much much faster than the Collexia did. It is also really light weight, meaning I can maneuver it a lot better, and reduce some of my natural frizz. It makes washing my hair feel a little less inconvenient. It’s a little more expensive than a normal hairdryer, it retails for £89.99 [here], but I think it is worth every pretty penny. I’m starting to get used to straightening my hair simply using this, meaning I’m maintaining more body in my hair as I am skipping using my GHDs.

Tangle Teezer

I’ve heard people rave about the Tangle Teezer for years and I don’t know why I didn’t ever pick one up. I had a ‘dupe’ of a Tangle Teezer and I thought ah it is pretty much the exact same thing, no need for me to buy a real one. How wrong was I? It feels like the brush goes through my hair like a knife through soft butter. I don’t have really knotty hair, but do get the odd few knots and this takes them out so effortlessly. I also use this on wet hair, and it just combs through it without causing any damage or pulling any hair out. I also use the Blowdrying Brush as I was gifted a set containing both from my lovely friend Fee from Makeup Savvy. Again, it has made my blowdrying routine so much easier. Couldn’t recommend it enough. You can pick up the Tangle Teezer [here] for £10.60 or the set [here] for £24.95

Moroccan Oil

I would say most beauty lovers have heard of Morrocan Oil, but for the past few years I’ve been using Kerastase Beauty Elixir so didn’t see the need for this in my collection. Clearly I was stupid. This so much better in my opinion, you only need a tiny bit, and it doesn’t weigh down my already limp looking hair. It makes my hair feel softer and I’m sure it makes it look shinier too. I feel like it also makes my hair more manageable, less fly aways and frizz. It smells divine, so what is there not to love? I especially love that it comes with a pump, I think I would love it a little less if I had to pour it at every use but the packaging is perfect for me. I don’t use this as a treatment oil, but as part of my styling routine. So far, no complaints, I doubt I’ll pick up Kerastase again. It doesn’t come cheap, around £32.85 for the full size bottle (125ml) but as I use about half a pump around twice a week, I know this will last me forever. You can pick this up here.

TIGI S-FACTOR Stunning Volume Shampoo and Conditioner

I am not a huge spender when it comes to shampoos and conditioners, but I do have a soft spot for S Factor shampoos. I’ve dabbled in a few different ones from the brand, but understandably it is the volumising ones that appeal to me. These smell so amazing, I know that isn’t enough of a real to try a shampoo/conditioner, but who doesn’t love their hair smelling amazing. I’ve been trying this combo out for a couple of weeks, and even without using any additional products, when my hair dries it does feel less limp and seems to contain more body. I love the conditioner especially, it leaves my hair smelling delicious and my hair super soft. I’ve been a little naughty, I’ve been skipping hair masks because the conditioner is doing such a good job. On the topic of hair masks, please leave me your suggestion as I am on the hunt for new ones. The shampoo and conditioner are actually currently on sale if you are interested, you can pick the shampoo up [here] for £10.85 and the conditioner is [here] for £11.55. You can also actually pick up a free TIGI Bedhead Small Talk Mini if you bought these two together today on the Look Fantastic website.

I did have a little unofficial resolution at the beginning of the year that I will learn more about my hair, what works for it, what doesn’t and also how to style it better. I don’t think I’ve completed the resolution yet, but I am getting closer to the end goal which feels pretty good. Just need to learn a few more styles that work for me and start using more treatments in my hair. Let me know if you have any hair favourites I should check out. Speak soon, Tanzina x
