I’ve used and loved Essie nail polishes for years now, with Mint Candy Apple remaining one of firm favourites till today. When I heard that Essie were celebrating their 35th anniversary I was so intrigued to find out if they were doing anything to mark the special occasion, and of course they were. They have launched an Essie Retro Revival collection, a collection of some of their first shades that were inspired by the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas, where the brand was born. There were two shades from this collection that really caught my eye, Sequin Sash and Birthday Suit and I really wanted to share them with you today before the limited edition collection sells out (I hear they’re flying off the shelf pretty fast!)
Although I love glitter polishes, they are a bit of a hassle and also a little too much for daily wear, I was able to pull full on glitter daily when I was a little younger. However when I saw Sequin Sash I knew I found the hybrid polish I’ve been looking for. Sequin Sash is described as a ‘sheer glittery bronze shade with silvery flecks,’ and I would say that is quite an accurate description. But I think the bronze shade is more of a tint than a colour but it is so flattering on the nails. This nail colour somehow manages to make glitter very elegant and I’ve really fallen in love with this shade so much. It’s sheer, I needed to use about 3 layers for the above picture, but it dries quickly and lasts over a week so I don’t mind doing that. I can’t explain just how elegant it looks on the nails. I have a very special event coming up soon in my personal life (that’s as much as I can give away right now!) and I have already decided this is the colour I will have on my nails. It is just beautiful and I think it will work really well as a topcoat for lots of different colours as well. This is currently available at Boots and Superdrug for £7.99.
The second shade that really caught my attention was Birthday Suit, which is described as ‘delicate nude’, which is a shade I really craved for my nail polish collection, a semi opaque shade that wasn’t overly noticeable but gave you that ‘finished’ look. I personally like the visible nail line look, some don’t, but I do especially with the more nude toned shades so for me this shade is perfect. I applied three coats on my nails, you could use more to build up opacity but if you really wanted opaque nude nails then I would just use an opaque shade instead of this one. This looks so pretty under Sequin Sash, a perfect base shade for any topcoat. This too retails at Boots and Superdrug for £7.99.
There are 6 shades in total in the Essie Retro Revival collection, I personally think I chose the best of the bunch, although Starry Starry Night (the glitter blue shade) looks more and more tempting each time I look at it.
This collection is available until mid April, so if any of the shades have caught your attention I would say to snap them up quickly. I think Sequin Sash is the winner for me from the Essie Retro Revival collection, there is something really unique about that shade and pictures do not do it justice. Let me know what shade you would pick up. Tanzina x
Halloween means one thing, no not ghosts or spooky stories instead it means ‘dress up’. I’m not a Halloween fan, I’ve never really celebrated but this year to mark the occassion I thought I would turn to the easiest option of dressing up for the event ever – nails.
I could do some elaborate nail art, maybe a witch or two or even the whole cast of Hocus Pocus ( I joke, there is no way I could conjure that up even with a wand!) but once I spotted this nail polish it just screamed Halloween to me. Halloween makes me think of trick or treating in the dark, during the cold evenings where the stars are already out and lots of black gowns and lots of magic potions bubbling away. This nail polish contains all that, a gorgeous black colour with silver glitter sprinkled throughout. I introduce you to Orly’s Black Pixel from the new Orly FX range.
How beautiful is that glitter? It really does sparkle and even as I type now looking at my nails reminds me of a starry sky, as cheesy as that sounds! Orly have discovered a new glitter polish recipe named the FX innovation. The 3D formula provides millions of glitter pixels and just two coats created this result. Usually with glitter polishes, I need a base colour or really need to layer up the glitter but this was ridiculously easy. I promised easy nails didn’t I? The collection contains six colours, I have my eyes now on the baby pink Rose Pixel offering.
You can pick these polishes up at £10.80 a pop here or at Orly stockists.
That’s it for my Halloween creation, didn’t I promise it would be ridiculously easy? Happy trick or treating loves! Tanzina x
I haven’t done nail posts in ages and recently I’ve just gotten back into painting my nails often again. You know what that means right, more Nail of the Day posts coming up. What I have for you today is another treasure from the Elizabeth Arden ‘New York in Bloom’ Colour collection. You can read more about the collection in a previous post here.
The shade I have painted my claws with is called ‘Teal Blossom’, a gorgeous teal colour which comes in a duo. On one side you have the nail colour and on the other you have the top coat, a feature I absolutely love as it is perfect for travelling with – I’ve whipped it out on the train journey home numerous times!
The consistency of the nail lacquer is really creamy and two coats is more than enough to create an opaque finish. The top coat provides a glossy finish and really more than anything it is the perfect duo to throw into your handbag and travel with. The colour is perfect for the transition between summer and autumn. I added a little accent nail but adding a little bit of silver glitter to the tip. I find the lasting power is pretty good too, it doesn’t start chipping until the fifth day or so which is quite impressive and it lasts even longer with my much loved Seche Vite top coat on top.
The duo retails for £14.00 and can be picked up from any Elizbeth Arden stockists. You can also pick it up online here.
Have a lovely day gorgeous and remember to like my facebook page, it makes my day! x
Hi lovelies, happy Tuesday (was meant to be Monday!) Funny how there is 5 whole days between Monday to Friday and only 2 tiny days between Friday to Monday right? Hardly sounds fair at all! Today I thought I’d share with you my current nail polish obsession, and a manicure look that I’ve just discovered. It really puts me in the mood for our non existent Spring season!
I have recently come back from a beauty treatment day at Beauty Booker. I had my hair done and a facial!! However, it definitely made me realise it’s about time I get a bit of colour on my nails so I’ve come home and got my nail kit out. I’m not sure if you know by now, but my favourite nail colour to wear is a pastel mint. It’s the colour that makes me happy and I have a feature wall in my bedroom in a pastel mint simply because I loved the look of the colour on my nails. So when this little beauty from Nails Inc landed in my life I did a little mental dance and put it amongst my ever growing pastel mint nail polish collection. (Note to self: make post on that collection!)
Now in that pastel mint collection we have quite a range of polishes, from OPI, Essie to Avon and Bourjois Paris. Some of them are a lighter mint, others a tad bit darker and probably some pretty much the same. However I am not just saying this, this is the best quality one from the bunch hands down. I introduce you to Nails Inc Haymarket, the most opaque, perfect consistency pastel polish I have ever tried. I’d double underline that ‘best’ if I could.
As you can see from the pictures, I created a gradient/ombre effect on my nails and left my ring finger fully coated in Haymarket. This was a late night spur of the moment nail polish application and I was so impressed with the results of just one coat of polish, I didn’t even bother applying another coat. I’ve been wearing this manicure out for a few days and I’ve gotten lots of compliments on it, and it didn’t chip! I took the pictures about three days into the manicure, it was much more glossy and shiny straight after the application and the next day.
So to wrap it all up, I actually got this from QVC however I can’t seem to find the polish on their site. You can pick it up from any Nails Inc stockist or directly from their website here. The nail polish retails for £11. I have a feeling this duck egg colour is going to be very popular again this year, it seems to be appearing a lot in fashion forecasts for the summer. For those of you who love good deals like me I have great news. QVC have some amazing sets available with great savings like a mini 6 piece nail polish collection for under £15! I’ve had my eye on the Nails Inc Britannia Collection (below) since last summer and I think after I’ve uploaded this post it may accidentally find its way into my basket. You can view the huge range of Nails Inc products at QVC here and the great thing about QVC is that you can read all the reviews there too from customers, I spy a lot of 5 star reviews!
That is it for today’s post, it’s super quick but I have a feeling this nail polish will be reappearing in a post real soon. This is only my first time playing around with the polish and I know I’ll keep returning to it. I may do a (neater) ombre look tutorial for you all so let me know if you would like to see that. So far, this is my favourite nail find of 2013! Hope the rest of your week goes as fast as the weekend did! Tanzina x
Happy Valentines! Yes, your not seeing things, this is the second post of the day. But as I was pampering myself up to go to the cinema (what! Moulin Rouge one of my all time favourites is in cinema for one day and you expect me to stay home?!) and painting my nails, I realised just how perfect my nails were for Valentine’s day and I couldn’t not write about it. The post had to happen today, Valentine’s day or just not happen at all.
My nails are a gorgeous deep matte red, perfect for Valentine’s day. For some weird reason my matte topcoat didn’t make the tips of my nails as matte as the rest but I’m really not complaining at all because I honestly like the results. For my red, I used the gorgeous Filthy Gorgeous London nail polish in .. wait for it.. Valentine. Yes truly I am wearing Valentine on my nails for Valentine’s day and its a red, how much more perfect can it get. This colour looks gorgeous on, I love how it suits my skin tone, and at university I’ve already had compliments on the colour. This costs £9.00 and you can pick it up here.
For my matte coat I used Essie Matte About You which is a really good matte coat but you have to make sure you really shake the bottle before application because it can act up and be a little funny and sometimes give a streaky matte finish which is highly annoying. But a good shake usually sorts that out. I love the look and feel of matte nails and I think that this is essential in my nail polish collection. This is £8.99 and you can find it here
That is it for my Valentine’s day nails, hope you’ve all been having a good day regardless of if your celebrating it or not and I hope you enjoyed today’s post. I am off to slip into something pretty and head out for Moulin Rouge, eek I’m so excited I know all the songs and I can’t wait to sing along to them all at the top of my voice. Will I have popcorn thrown at me? Probably. Do I care? Not at all. Moulin Rouge is made to be sang along to. Ah I adore how beautiful Nicole Kidman looks in it too, a true beauty. Tanzina x
