My Resolutions Update – March

Good Morning (or afternoon or evening whenever you are reading this), it’s been a couple of weeks since I last touched base with you. I couldn’t however miss out on posting my March updates, I really enjoy writing my New Year’s Resolution updates (read them here) so here we are again in a new month providing new updates.

Let’s do a quick summary of the month of March. March was a really good month for me mentally and emotionally. I really do feel like the old Tanzina again, and maybe a better and improved version actually. It’s interesting how hardships can affect you, sometimes negatively and then there are those rare moments where it impacts you positively. Throughout March I felt like I was in a better headspace in general, felt more productive and happier with myself. I kept myself busy, shopped a little too much and finally started taking some of my new year’s resolutions seriously. Okay talking of new year’s resolutions, I seem to have understood them wrong. For me, resolutions made at the start of the year mean goals that I would like accomplished by the 31st of December that year. Apparently you are supposed to make goals, and actively start making progress on them from the 1st of January! That is definitely not how I looked at them, I just saw mine as goals which I need to tick off in the next 365 days, even if it took until the very last day to accomplish! I guess it doesn’t really matter too much as long as you get there in the end.

Okay now let’s do some updates, I always feel a little nervous when I starting typing out this bit.

  • Get Fit & Tone Up –
It took me until the end of March to start taking this one seriously. I even bought myself a pair of new trainers for the gym to incentivise myself to attend the gym. I gave myself the excuse that my trainers were too tight so that’s why I didn’t go the gym. The things you tell yourself! At the end of March I started going to the gym and I am slowly getting back into the rhythm of it. It is really hard if I am honest, especially when you don’t see results straight away. I got on the scales this week, and my weight has increased to 56.5KG! Now that might not sound super high to everyone, but I am really petite and only 5 foot 3, meaning every lump and bump shows up on me. My face has definitely gotten chubbier and if I am honest, I feel like avoiding the mirror. My normal weight is usually around the 50KG mark, so I need to lose that extra 7KG I have gained.

  • Fix Blog, Blog More and Upload More –
So my blog is still fixed, but I think this goal needs amendment. March was a great month of productivity, but unfortunately it wasn’t for my blog. I am finding it hard to balance everything that I want to achieve, I really want my Instagram and YouTube to do well, and there is only one of me to go round. I made the conscious decision that I will not pressurise myself about my blog too much. It is quite tricky building up traffic on here and maintain Youtube and Instagram. I really want to hit 10K on my Instagram (7.7K) at the moment, so then I can have the swipe up feature and refer my followers to my blog. So until then, I might let my blog take a back seat a little bit. On the upside, I am consistently uploading two videos a week on YouTube and updating my IG regularly. I am thinking when I film makeup look posts, I might do a quick summary and product list on my blog so expect to see more makeup looks on here going forward. From next month, I am going to change the title of this goal to something a little more Youtube/IG focused.
  • Become a Positive Person –
This one is slowly happening! I am starting to feel like the old me again, there are a few moments when I feel a little down and angry at certain things, but on the majority I have acquired a more positive and happy attitude. I think a lot of it is down to feeling grateful for all the amazing people I have in my life. I really am blessed in that regard and other regards too like my career. I’m also starting to see that those people who try to tear you down, usually have demons of their own, insecurities of their own, and that’s why they are the way they are. Rather than feeling angry, I feel sorry for those individuals and that really does feel like a weight off my chest.
  • Start Praying More –
I’m going to keep it real, and admit I am feeling a little down about this one. I don’t feel like I am as good at this as I was a few weeks ago, so in April I really want to get back to where I was. I truly believe that this helped me through hurdles and tough times, and I don’t want to drop now that I am reaping the rewards. I am still praying, just not as much as I want to be. I’ll get back there, especially with Ramadhan coming up in May!
  • Create a Home –
Haha I know I said I was parking this till the end of the year, but for some reason I can’t help but shop for it! Our house is so so far away from completion, right now work hasn’t even started on it but clearly I am finding it hard to contain my excitement. I keep buying things for the kitchen! Yesterday I bought some colanders. I usually buy things and then do a little haul on my Instagram stories, if you fancy a peek then check out my profile (makeupatoz) and find my hauls saved on the highlight titled ‘Hauls’. There is a lot of TK Maxx in there!
  • Learn How To Wrap a Saree –
I have actually made a start on this one, I promise. At the end of March I was preparing for some wedding events, and I tried wrapping a saree in the run up. It went disastrously wrong of course, and ended up the wrong way round but I think I get the general gist of it. I will have to keep trying.
  • Wake Up Earlier –
I really need help with this one, as I am awful at it. How do I still require about 10 hours of sleep on weekends. I haven’t really accomplished my goal on this one once! I’m going to go read some articles now on how to combat this. I think it’s the answer to all my goals really, if I sleep less, I will accomplish more. That being said, tonight I am going to aim for 7 hours sleep and wake up early for work tomorrow. I hate this rush rush Tanzina I have become.

So that is it for my New Year’s resolutions update. I am sure I wanted to add another one to the list, but it has completely left my mind! I am feeling quite proud of myself for the progress I am making with these, although going a couple of steps backwards with praying has dented my sense of accomplishment a little. April is going to be a busy month, I have a few wedding events and also it is the run up to Ramadhan for which I am hoping to have a few food bits prepared for in advance and in the freezer as that will help preparing meals a little easier. I’m also planning on combating my eating throughout the month and only have one heavy meal a day and cut out the amount of fast food I have been enjoying this year. I will catch up with you guys next month to see how the month of April went. Speak soon, Tanzina x

My Resolutions Update – February

Good morning, and welcome to my February updates. How are we even in the middle of March? Where is this year going? I wanted to touch base, and like last month (check that post here) I wanted to pen a resolutions update for February. I feel like this makes me feel a little teensy weensy bit more accountable for the resolutions, and potentially might make it more likely for me to actually complete my resolutions this year, unlike any other year before. Plus, sometimes I like having a nosey at what is happening in someone’s life, so maybe you’d like a nosey at mine!

January was a very draining month for me, and I am happy to report that February was not the same. My spirits are back up, and although I definitely did hit the occasional bump in the road, I am working to be more positive and happier. I’ve been keeping myself busy, and I think that has been helping me drown out some of the negativity that is present in my life. I spent some time with my family, I went out with my friends quite a bit, and all in all had a pretty good month. Let’s get onto the resolutions and see how I have been getting on. I’ll be honest, I’ve kind of been dreading this.

  1. Get Fit & Tone Up – Ugh. Okay so I am happy to report that I went to the gym… once. But hey that is a 100% improvement on last month! Who am I kidding, this hasn’t been great. In my defence I did start fasting at the end of the month, which makes going to the gym a little trickier but honestly I could have done so much better. Again for March, I am going to try turn it around, so who knows, maybe next month will be better. Although knowing me, that is being severely optimistic. I have taken out my trusty Fit Bit, so let’s see if that makes a difference. Leave me your username in the comments if you have one!
  2. Fix Blog, Blog More and Upload More – Hurray my blog is fixed! From a technical point, I am happy with how the blog is functioning. I wouldn’t say my blogging has dramatically become more consistent, but I have started writing more posts. I am aiming for a blog post once a week and a YouTube video once a week. I am happy to report that I have been consistent with you Youtube uploads (my channel) and may consider increasing my uploads to twice a week. Let’s see how it goes, I don’t want to run before I can walk.
  3. Become a Positive Person – This one is really hard guys. I find it so hard to switch my mind off from thinking about some of the rubbish situations I have been in, and how people have behaved and it is definitely a struggle letting it all go and concentrating on my happiness. In comparison to January, my mood has improved hugely and I guess this is a work in progress. I’ll get there I am sure, what doesn’t break me only makes me stronger.
  4. Start Praying More – This resolution makes me so happy, and probably contributes hugely to the above resolution. I have been praying consistently and honestly it has done wonders for my mental wellbeing. I have also started taking Arabic classes, and I can already see an improvement after 4 lessons.
  5. Create a Home – As discussed in last month’s resolution update, this one is parked for now. But exciting things are slowly starting to happen.
  6. Learn How To Wrap a Saree – Ugh, haven’t even visited this resolution once this year!
  7. Wake Up Earlier – Okay this is still something I just can’t seem to conquer. I still rush every morning. I still waste away my weekends when I could be doing something more constructive than just sleeping in. I am going to try this weekend to wake up earlier than usual and go from there. If you have any tips on becoming a morning person, they would be greatly appreciated!

So here we are, Feb updates completed and already in the middle of March. I’m finding it both daunting and motivating writing these update posts, I think it makes me answer to myself. I hope you guys are getting on well with your resolutions, I’d love to hear about them. If you don’t already, make sure you follow me on Instagram (@makeupatoz) as then you will get daily updates on my resolutions. Speak soon! Tanzina x

My Resolution Update – January

Good Morning guys, and Happy Mid February. It’s crazy how fast that came around, it feels like yesterday when I was seeing in the New Year. Since I openly shared my New Year’s resolutions, in the hope of being held accountable, I thought I would update you all with how I am getting along. This is going to be embarrassing, as honestly, January was one of the worst months I have had in a long while.

Let’s bring you up to speed, emotionally the month has been very up and down for me. There were some really nice highs, like my birthday and also my sister’s graduation, but there have been lows as well which have left me mentally drained. I don’t cope well with feeling low, my go to method of coping is crawling into bed and staying there for hours on end. As you can imagine that brings my productivity levels to a halt and I don’t get much done. And all that does is make me feel even lower and it’s a vicious cycle that is so hard to break. So now that February has peeped, I am starting to slowly rebuild myself up again, as I don’t want to let the year slip away without achieving my goals and targets. Talking about targets, let’s discuss my New Year’s resolutions and how I got on with them. You can read my original New Year’s Resolution post [here], I was feeling a lot more positive.

  1. Get Fit & Tone Up – Sigh, this hasn’t moved at all. I haven’t even visited the gym since I returned from Bangladesh. The first 2 weeks, I had a very irritated stomach which meant exercise was out the question. On a positive note, I did lose quite a bit of weight. I am hoping February is going to be the month I go to the gym, even if it is once or twice a week. I need to build my stamina back up.
  2. Fix Blog, Blog More and Upload More – Hmm, again another fail. I have upload just one blog post (check it out here) and no YouTube videos, I am working on content at the moment so hopefully I will change this. I have however worked on fixing my blog, and am in the middle of completing the fixes, so at least there has been progress in that front.
  3. Become a Positive Person – This definitely did not work during January, mentally my anxiety and stress levels really hindered that. I can’t wait to start feeling better and happier and becoming more positive, but I do also know myself and know that this isn’t something I can’t force. It needs to happen naturally so who knows, maybe my February update will be a little more positive. I am also planning on looking into reading positivity, self-growth books so if there are any great ones you’d recommend, please do let me know.
  4. Start Praying More – Okay, something I can say I am actually doing. As I’ve mentioned, mentally I haven’t been 100% and honestly I think praying has made me feel a lot better. I am still not as consistent as I would like to be, but I wasn’t expecting that straight away. I just know I am getting a lot more regular at praying, and if that is the only goal I tick off this year I won’t be too disappointed in myself. I know my parent’s would be the happiest parents in the world!
  5. Create a Home – This is a goal that I know needs to be parked till towards the end of 2018. However it doesn’t stop me from buying way too many home bits!
  6. Learn how to Wrap a Saree – No progress with this on either. I may go home today and just bring out a saree, blouse and petticoat from my wardrobe and leave it in plain sight so that I am more likely to practise.
  7. Wake Up Earlier – This is a new resolution which wasn’t a part of my original resolutions. I need to wake up earlier. I am most definitely not a morning person and I realise that is also something that works against me when it comes to being more productive. I sleep in quite late on weekends and also rush every weekday morning and I would like to change that. Hopefully it is something I am able to combat this year.

So those are my resolution updates, it’s definitely not where I thought I would be when I first wrote them out, but life always has its own plans for you no matter how well you plan out what you want to happen. I’m going to have to forgive myself and accept that health comes first. I’d be lying if I said I am okay to be in this position for our next update, so please keep your fingers crossed for me so that next month, I have more positivity to share. Speak soon, Tanzina x

My New Year’s Resolutions 2018

New Year’s resolutions are a funny bunch, some people love them and others really don’t agree with the concept. I haven’t really focused much on New Year’s resolutions for 2017, and to be honest, looking back I am glad I didn’t. 2017 has been crazy for me, I got married at the end of 2016 so just settling into this new life has taken up the majority of my time. I have had quite a few ups and downs, cases of anxiety, and I have experienced lots of changes. What I want to do today, is reflect on the last couple of years and pen what wishes I have for this new year.

As this post goes live, I am currently in Bangladesh. We flew over on the 15th of December (the date of my one year wedding anniversary) and will be back in the next few days. I’ll be seeing in the New Year with a party on the 1st of January, to celebrate our one year and also to celebrate with family over in Bangladesh who were unable to attend our wedding. As you guys may already know, my family are the single most important thing to me, so to have them surrounding me will be the best start to year 2018. I actually last wrote my New Year’s resolution back in 2016 (which you can read here) so I thought I would touch on my resolutions from two years ago and see how much has changed. Here is an update on my 2016 resolutions.

  • Get Fit & Tone Up – This one made me laugh because it really is an on going thing, one I haven’t quite cracked yet. I think this must be on the majority of new years resolutions and it definitely is on mine again. Sorry 2016 Tanzina, you didn’t quite master this one.
  • Fix Blog & Blog More – I actually did manage to fix my blog, I also managed to blog more. And then all the wedding prep started, and I would say 2017 has been my worst year in a while. But tomorrow is always another day.
  • Start Doing More YouTube Videos – Sorry 2016 Tanzina, you flopped this one too. This review really isn’t going very well is it. However I would say at the end of 2017 my uploads are a little less spaced out, so we’re heading in the right direction.
  • Become More Organised – I think I actually DID make progress on this one. With a wedding to plan and then a new life to sort out, I managed to get a little more organised.
  • Start Thinking About Settling Down – Hurray! Something I can completely tick off the list. I had an inkling at the beginning of 2016 that it may be an important year for me, but I didn’t want to give too much away just in case things didn’t pan out the way I wanted them to. But my husband and I got engaged and married in 2016. It makes me really happy that I can cross this one off.

So what do I have planned for 2018? Well as you can guess, some of the above resolutions are going to be transferred straight over.

1. Get Fit and Tone Up

Okay before you laugh at me, I am doing something about this. Towards the end of 2017, I was really unhappy about my body. It wasn’t knocking my confidence, but I felt hideous. I just had too many bulges, and I still do. But I started at a new job in November, and they fortunately have a gym on site! I’ve started getting into the habit of going a lot more regularly than I ever have in my life. It hasn’t worked any wonders for me yet, but if I keep being consistent I will see a change. Going to Bangladesh for three weeks will no doubt undo my fitness progress, but it may actually do wonders in getting rid of the bulges. I struggle to eat properly once I get there, and end up losing lots of weight. I am secretly hoping that is what happens to me, and then I can do all the toning work when I get back. If I remain consistent in January I think I will treat myself to a new gym wardrobe for my birthday. Oh also, the aim for 2018 is to do 10 push ups without pausing. Right now I can’t even do one.

2. Fix Blog, Blog More, and Upload More.

Sounds familiar? Two years later and still the same resolution, please tell me I’m not alone on this! So my blog does need some fixing, somehow my data isn’t getting transferred to my Google Analytics and my ads auto populate meaning they’re everywhere over the blog which I really don’t like. Those two tasks are on my to-do list for January 2017. Next, content. I really let things slip in 2017 but 2018 is a new year and a new chance to turn things around. I’m going to consciously try and stick to this one. Hopefully it’ll be one I can cross off my 2019 resolutions.

3. Become a Positive Person

This is a resolution that I began working on towards the end of 2017. I had a few ups and downs throughout the year, and it taught be that my negative mind was making things ten times worse. Holding negativity, anger, bitterness… it was doing me more damage than anyone else. I’ve started to try and become more positive and I genuinely feel that mentality is making my life better. I also purchased The Happiness Planner back in July 2017, so I am going to aim to fill it in and use it as much as possible this year. I also picked up a similar planner, but for Muslim girls from Salaam Paperie, and again I’ll try to stick to filling that in.

4. Start Praying More

I’m not going to talk too much about this one, as I know religion is quite a personal subject. But I am a Muslim, and I really get a lot of peace and fulfilment through praying. Unfortunately I am not doing it as much as I would like to, so that is definitely something I hope I work on in 2018.

5. Create a Home

2018 MAY be quite an exciting year for me, if things go to plan, I should be moving into my first house. Currently I live with in-laws, and prior to that I lived with my family, and other than my stint in a studio flat during University, I’ve never had my own house. If things go well, in the later part of 2018, I should be moving into our new house. So a major focus of 2018 is following that through, and building a home for myself, making it cosy and beautiful. I have really high hopes for this house, so I hope I can mould into the home I’ve envisioned for years – that is if the move goes to plan!

6. Learn how to Wrap a Saree

This one is embarrassing. I am a married Bengali woman, and I think I am letting my heritage down by not knowing how to wrap a saree! As I mentioned, I am over in Bangladesh at the moment, so I am hoping I master this whilst I am there. If I don’t accomplish this is 2018 I will be extremely disappointed in myself. I have spent too much money on too many stunning sarees to not know how to wrap it! And I hate having to ask people to help me.

I think I have written my heart out about my New Year’s resolution, and I will be using this post as something to measure my progress against. I think in 3 months time I will do an update, as some of these can be measured in 3 months. The house move definitely will not be possible in 3 months time but I should be able to update a few of these. I would love to know if you have any New Year’s resolutions and what measures you are taking in achieving them. Speak soon! Tanzina x

2016 Resolutions Update

I thought I would do a resolution update, as at the beginning of the year I was so passionate about my New Year’s resolutions. I was motivated, looking forward to the new start and I made a mental and physical note of all the things I wanted to achieve this year. As with all things, life does get in the way, and things don’t always pan out how you wanted them to. I thought I would revisit my resolutions just to refresh them in my mind and keep track of my progress.

2016 Resolutions Update

 1. Get Fit & Tone Up

Well, where shall I start with this one. The above picture/e-card pretty much sums it up for me. January was a flop, I didn’t go the gym once and I put on 2 pounds. Although I am not concerned at all about the 2 pounds, I was really bummed out at about my overall fitness, I haven’t been eating well or drinking enough water. Exercise has been a foreign word. However I am not being too harsh on myself, I have been so drained of energy and have been struggling with my health all month. I finally had a blood test last week, I suspect my iron levels have dropped quite a bit. I am hoping to sort out my health this month, so fingers crossed I will back on track with this resolution very soon.

2. Fix Blog & Blog More

This is a resolution I am so happy about. So in my New Year’s resolution post I mentioned I have been having issues with my blog for the longest time. It is so disheartening seeing your stats drop unexpectedly and it does sometimes take away the motivation to blog. However I ploughed ahead, and finally, after a bit of SEO help and perseverance, I feel like my blog is doing the best it has ever done! This January was the best month for me since I first started blogging, so it has definitely motivated me to keep at it. I am slowly now going to concentrate on updating parts of my blog and make it prettier. I am okay with the amount of blog posts I have been creating recently as well, but I think I will try to aim for more posts each month.

3. Start Doing More YouTube Videos

Yay, another one that is still on track! So for the month of January I posted new content on my YouTube channel each week, and so far I am happy with how this resolution is going. Ideally I would like to post two videos a week, but I am not going to attempt to run before I walk. Fingers cross, this continues. I’ve inserted my latest video below just in case you were interested to check it out :)

4. Become More Organised

Hmm, I don’t know how I feel about this one. Due to my lack of energy and just feeling unwell, I haven’t managed to get a lot of things done last month. I am not beating myself up about it, but it would have been nicer to feel revamped and ready to tick off every box in my diary. However that being said I am making more lists on my phone of things I need to get done, and I am finding that quite helpful. Oh, I also picked up the book: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying which I have heard so many people rave about. I am hoping reading this will make me tidier and more organised, I can dream right?

 5. Start Thinking About Settling Down

This is a bit of a funny one, because you can’t just magically make it happen, these things happen when they want to. I feel like I am getting into the headspace of, okay life isn’t going to be just about me forever, I do want to share it with someone but I don’t think I expected to see this goal progress in the space of a month. I think this will develop over the course of the year, and I am hoping I will have more direction with my life by the end of the year. We shall see what happens!

So it terms of progress, I’d say 2.5 out of 5 which is better than nothing right?! I do feel a little let down by my health if I am honest, but I am remaining positive and hoping once I figure out what is wrong I will be okay. I am actually making monthly resolutions now, of little things I want to accomplish each month, because I really think doing this resolution post has helped give me some direction for this year. Here are a few of my February resolutions, bear in mind I am not expecting to master them all!:

  • Post 6 videos this month – potentially do-able
  • Blog 10 times this month – again do-able
  • Work on designing a new header – I need inspiration for this, so need to do some research
  • Lose 2 pounds – might struggle with this one due to how I have been feeling recently, I might swap it with just feel better health wise.
  •  Read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying and de-clutter my whole room – maybe not my whole room…
  • Practise wrapping a saree – how can I be a Bengali girl and not know this!

I hope you liked my little 2016 resolution update, I would love to know if you have any resolutions this year and how are you getting along with them? Please let me know if any of my resolutions ring true with you! Tanzina x
