New Year’s resolutions are a funny bunch, some people love them and others really don’t agree with the concept. I haven’t really focused much on New Year’s resolutions for 2017, and to be honest, looking back I am glad I didn’t. 2017 has been crazy for me, I got married at the end of 2016 so just settling into this new life has taken up the majority of my time. I have had quite a few ups and downs, cases of anxiety, and I have experienced lots of changes. What I want to do today, is reflect on the last couple of years and pen what wishes I have for this new year.
As this post goes live, I am currently in Bangladesh. We flew over on the 15th of December (the date of my one year wedding anniversary) and will be back in the next few days. I’ll be seeing in the New Year with a party on the 1st of January, to celebrate our one year and also to celebrate with family over in Bangladesh who were unable to attend our wedding. As you guys may already know, my family are the single most important thing to me, so to have them surrounding me will be the best start to year 2018. I actually last wrote my New Year’s resolution back in 2016 (which you can read here) so I thought I would touch on my resolutions from two years ago and see how much has changed. Here is an update on my 2016 resolutions.
- Get Fit & Tone Up – This one made me laugh because it really is an on going thing, one I haven’t quite cracked yet. I think this must be on the majority of new years resolutions and it definitely is on mine again. Sorry 2016 Tanzina, you didn’t quite master this one.
- Fix Blog & Blog More – I actually did manage to fix my blog, I also managed to blog more. And then all the wedding prep started, and I would say 2017 has been my worst year in a while. But tomorrow is always another day.
- Start Doing More YouTube Videos – Sorry 2016 Tanzina, you flopped this one too. This review really isn’t going very well is it. However I would say at the end of 2017 my uploads are a little less spaced out, so we’re heading in the right direction.
- Become More Organised – I think I actually DID make progress on this one. With a wedding to plan and then a new life to sort out, I managed to get a little more organised.
- Start Thinking About Settling Down – Hurray! Something I can completely tick off the list. I had an inkling at the beginning of 2016 that it may be an important year for me, but I didn’t want to give too much away just in case things didn’t pan out the way I wanted them to. But my husband and I got engaged and married in 2016. It makes me really happy that I can cross this one off.
So what do I have planned for 2018? Well as you can guess, some of the above resolutions are going to be transferred straight over.
1. Get Fit and Tone Up
Okay before you laugh at me, I am doing something about this. Towards the end of 2017, I was really unhappy about my body. It wasn’t knocking my confidence, but I felt hideous. I just had too many bulges, and I still do. But I started at a new job in November, and they fortunately have a gym on site! I’ve started getting into the habit of going a lot more regularly than I ever have in my life. It hasn’t worked any wonders for me yet, but if I keep being consistent I will see a change. Going to Bangladesh for three weeks will no doubt undo my fitness progress, but it may actually do wonders in getting rid of the bulges. I struggle to eat properly once I get there, and end up losing lots of weight. I am secretly hoping that is what happens to me, and then I can do all the toning work when I get back. If I remain consistent in January I think I will treat myself to a new gym wardrobe for my birthday. Oh also, the aim for 2018 is to do 10 push ups without pausing. Right now I can’t even do one.
2. Fix Blog, Blog More, and Upload More.
Sounds familiar? Two years later and still the same resolution, please tell me I’m not alone on this! So my blog does need some fixing, somehow my data isn’t getting transferred to my Google Analytics and my ads auto populate meaning they’re everywhere over the blog which I really don’t like. Those two tasks are on my to-do list for January 2017. Next, content. I really let things slip in 2017 but 2018 is a new year and a new chance to turn things around. I’m going to consciously try and stick to this one. Hopefully it’ll be one I can cross off my 2019 resolutions.
3. Become a Positive Person
This is a resolution that I began working on towards the end of 2017. I had a few ups and downs throughout the year, and it taught be that my negative mind was making things ten times worse. Holding negativity, anger, bitterness… it was doing me more damage than anyone else. I’ve started to try and become more positive and I genuinely feel that mentality is making my life better. I also purchased The Happiness Planner back in July 2017, so I am going to aim to fill it in and use it as much as possible this year. I also picked up a similar planner, but for Muslim girls from Salaam Paperie, and again I’ll try to stick to filling that in.
4. Start Praying More
I’m not going to talk too much about this one, as I know religion is quite a personal subject. But I am a Muslim, and I really get a lot of peace and fulfilment through praying. Unfortunately I am not doing it as much as I would like to, so that is definitely something I hope I work on in 2018.
5. Create a Home
2018 MAY be quite an exciting year for me, if things go to plan, I should be moving into my first house. Currently I live with in-laws, and prior to that I lived with my family, and other than my stint in a studio flat during University, I’ve never had my own house. If things go well, in the later part of 2018, I should be moving into our new house. So a major focus of 2018 is following that through, and building a home for myself, making it cosy and beautiful. I have really high hopes for this house, so I hope I can mould into the home I’ve envisioned for years – that is if the move goes to plan!
6. Learn how to Wrap a Saree
This one is embarrassing. I am a married Bengali woman, and I think I am letting my heritage down by not knowing how to wrap a saree! As I mentioned, I am over in Bangladesh at the moment, so I am hoping I master this whilst I am there. If I don’t accomplish this is 2018 I will be extremely disappointed in myself. I have spent too much money on too many stunning sarees to not know how to wrap it! And I hate having to ask people to help me.
I think I have written my heart out about my New Year’s resolution, and I will be using this post as something to measure my progress against. I think in 3 months time I will do an update, as some of these can be measured in 3 months. The house move definitely will not be possible in 3 months time but I should be able to update a few of these. I would love to know if you have any New Year’s resolutions and what measures you are taking in achieving them. Speak soon! Tanzina x
