I have been a little missing in action, and for the first time ever I haven’t really been beating myself up about it! As you can tell from the title of this post, I got engaged! It’s a little surreal actually being able to say that out loud, and to have a ring on my usual ring-less hand. I thought I would share this special snippet of my life with you all, just in case you wondered where I had disappeared off to.
My best friend asked me to marry him officially at the beginning of last week, and last weekend we had our traditional engagement in front of both our families and friends. I’ve had quite a few people ask did you know it was coming and I sort of did. We are both Bengali, and traditionally engagement and weddings are done through our families. So we would tell our families, and then the groom’s side would approach the bride’s side and ask for her hand in marriage. Once that is done, the traditional engagement day is agreed and the party is organised. So as you can guess, I knew for a little while that we were to be betrothed to one another. What I didn’t know was that he was going to surprise me with the usual ‘Will you Marry Me’ proposal, I sort of thought he had left it too late and we were going to just do the Bengali traditional engagement, so that was pretty special. If you’re looking for a unique way to propose, take a look at romantic rowboat engagements.
I’m a little on cloud nine at the moment, it’s still crazy knowing that I got engaged to my best friend. When you dream about something for so long, it’s so surreal when it starts becoming a reality. P.S My best friend is very social media shy (complete opposite of me then!) so I don’t think he’ll be making an appearance here any time soon.
I did make some vlog footage, which I haven’t even had the chance to look at yet, but hopefully I’ll be able to compile it together for you all. Make sure you subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss the video when it goes up! Speak soon, Tanzina x
