I’ve always been a fan of the Limecrime Velvetines, I haven’t tried anything else from the brand, but I tried the Velvetines years ago and fell in love. The Velvetines line has been expanding for years, but I never really decided to take the plunge and try out their latest offerings. That is until I saw the True Love set. I knew I had to do a True Love set review for you all today because when I saw it on Limecrime’s Instagram page, I kept going back and staring at it. THEN they had an offer for free worldwide shopping, and you just know I snapped that deal up straight away. How could I not?
Okay let’s address the elephant in the room. I know Limecrime have been affected by a lot of scandal, and I’ll be honest even I was like uh-uh, no more Limecrime for me. But in the aftermath of their issues, Limecrime have recovered well and have looked after their customers, and if I’m truthful I might as well admit that my heart was breaking as my Red Velvet Velvetine was running out. And I am not one to cut off my nose in spite of face.
Now that has been addressed, let’s get onto my Limecrime True Love set review. This is a set of 3 liquid lipsticks, all limited edition for the moment (there are some talks of the colours being sold as individuals), and all varying in shades. What really piqued my interest was that they all seemed like colours I would get a lot of wear out of. I really love the Limecrime Velvetines, they are very very long wearing, don’t feel too dry on your lips and are very well pigmented. As I hadn’t bought a Velvetine in a long while, I was worried that this may not be the case anymore, but I am happy to report they are good as they’ve always been.
The set comes with three shades, Cupid which is described as a soft petal pink, True Love, a vibrant pinky red and Saint, a deep cranberry red.
This was the shade I was most worried about, I was worried it would be too Barbie pink for my tanned skin tone and it would clash on me. Soft pinks don’t tend to work for me, I usually have to opt for a dusty rose pink with brown undertones. However I was pleasantly surprised to find it somehow does work. It’s the lightest pink I’ve ever pulled off. Because this is lighter in colour I found it to wear off the quickest, but it still lasted around 5 hours for me before I had to reapply. I found the best way to apply was to completely wipe of the doe foot applicator on the side of the tube, and then apply, as otherwise I got too much product on my lip. A little goes a long way.
I love how vivid this shade is, it truly is a beauty. I love pink toned reds, they’re quite playful and very flattering. This shade goes on like a dream, and stays for hours. I know this is a shade I will be getting a lot of use out of especially as the seasons are starting to get warmer. This is a true summer shade with it’s vividness and will get a lot of wear out of me.
I think this might be my favourite shade, I didn’t think brown shades would appeal to me but this is perfect mix of red/pink tones to make it really wearable. I like the idea of a darker lip but in practise it can look a little strong on me, however I somehow manage to pull this shade off really well. I am sure you will see a few makeup looks coming up where this is will be used. I would describe it as a deep cranberry brown, with slight dusky pink undertones. It looks so lovely on my skintone
This set was on sale when I picked it up, and it cost me $44 from the Limecrime website. This worked out to be around £31 which for three liquid lipsticks is a really good price to me. Limecrime pay duties on behalf of their UK customers, so you don’t have to worry about those nasty shipping tax fees.
I just had a look at the Limecrime website for you, and this set is now back in stock, at the sale price! If you are interested in these Velvetines, I’d highly recommend picking them up before they sell out again. You can pick it up here.
I hope you liked my Limecrime True Love set review, I felt like I had to share this one with you guys because I just loved all the colours in the set and my love for Limecrime has been reignited.
