MAC Fast Play lipstick was actually one of very first MAC lipsticks I ever picked up. I remember going in there specifically looking for an every day lipstick shade, and Fast Play just stood out to me (which is hard to do in a sea of MAC lipsticks!) Ever since, I have repurchased and used it often. I thought I would do a MAC Fast Play lipstick review today, just for those wondering if this shade would be for them.
MAC describe Fast Play as a ‘neutral pink’ and yes you could use that as the description for the lipstick but I personally think that the description is a bit bland and lacking. I would describe it as a warm pink nude, with definite brown/mauve tones running through it. The pink is the dominant shade in this lipstick but the brown adds a warm tone to the lipstick to make it the perfect nude for many people. If you are looking for a neutral tone that doesn’t wash you out and make you look ill, this is it! I feel like this would suit a range of skin tones, both light (from about NC20) and dark, but I would especially recommend it for people with warmer skin tones. Being of tanned complexion it is quite hard to find a nude-y every day shade, and this lipstick is the no effort pink toned nude for me.
The finish for this lipstick is Amplified, which isn’t really a finish I tend to go for. I am a huge matte lips fan, but I guess matte isn’t the finish you reach for if you want a quick easy every day application. This lipstick is very soft, creamy and moisturising; if you smack your lips together you can feel it there. It does give really good coverage, you don’t need a lip liner underneath and although I would say my lips are fairly pigmented, it covers them perfectly in one swipe. The finish is a little glossy as well, not too much, but enough to be able to say you are definitely not wearing a matte lip.
The Wear Time
The downfall of such a moisturising lipstick is that unfortunately, the wear isn’t going to be amazing. I get about 4 hours wear before I reach to reapply, especially if I have been eating. I had an iced bun today and I managed to get it on the icing! This is the kind of lipstick that you carry with you. Don’t expect to put it on before work and expect to see it there 8 hours later, unless you’ve been fasting that day. However, that being said, I don’t think the wear is terrible. Yes I have to reapply after a meal, but that isn’t the end of the world.
I really like this lipstick, and as first MAC lipsticks go, I think I did pretty well picking this one out. It applies smoothly, is very flattering on my skin tone and it makes my lips look fuller due to its glossy finish. It is very much an every day shade, wear to work kind of shade, and I do think I will repurchase it once I finish this tube too. It has gotten lost amongst my many lipstick over the last year or so, but I am glad I have rediscovered my love for it again. Maybe one of my 2016 resolutions should be to stop relying so much on my matte lipsticks! I hope you found my MAC Fast Play Lipstick review useful, if you have any questions please leave them below and I will 100% get back to you.
