I’ve told myself that 2016 is the year I try and crawl out of makeup rut and try lots of new makeup products. I have so many products I just reach for on a regular basis, and I am trying to now reach for different products because I feel like I am restricting myself by not exploring other brands and products. I recently created a halo makeup look where I tried a few new products so I thought share them with all as I really loved how the look turned out.
In case you are wondering what the hell is a halo makeup look, it is basically where you have a darker shadow on the outer corner and inner corner of your eyes and a lighter shadow on the centre of your eye. I’ve tried pointing it out in the above picture, I hope you don’t find it condescending but I didn’t know it was called a halo look until recently!

I actually loved how this look turned out, the eyes are very smokey and dramatic and I find it makes the look quite sultry. For this look I branched out and used a palette I discovered last month and have fallen SO in love with, Sleek ‘The Gold Standard i-Lust Eyeshadow Palette’. This was actually part of their Christmas collection however it is still available on the Boots website for £7.49. Or you could ask to look in the Sleek drawers in stores as sometimes they still have old collections hidden away in the drawers waiting to be collected. I love the third shadow, which is a gorgeous gold cream shadow with specks of glitter in it, I applied this to the centre of my eye lid and then applied the fourth shadow, a powder antique gold, on top. I also really love the fifth shade, which is a gorgeous light pearly silver cream eyeshadow. I keep using this recently as my inner corner highlight and going over it with the final shade which is shimmery light shell shade. This palette definitely has made me fall back in love with Sleek shadows, I will need to pick up more palettes in the future.

For my face makeup, I went for my current favourite look, the highlighted look. This time however rather than opting for the super shimmery highlight, I went for a subtle sheen using the Elizabeth Arden Golden Opulence highlighter. This provides a really nice glow, I personally prefer to use the middle light shade and the gold shade swirled together. It really does provide a really nice highlight which reflects nicely in the light, but it isn’t too heavy at all. I prefer wearing this in the day. Also I toned down the shimmer highlight, I decided to bring out the features I wanted the light to hit by using the Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Highlighter and Corrector. This is very similar to the YSL Touche Éclat, which I have, but I feel like this has a little more coverage and pigment. I used this under the eyes, in between the brows and slightly down my nose and a couple of dabs on the centre of my chin. I can definitely see the difference it made to my look, especially under my eye. My nose and cupid bow also looks really sculpted.
On my lips I used a combination I am actually really enjoying as of late, I applied MAC Burgundy pencil all over and then MAC Mehr on top.
I hope you liked this halo makeup look, if you would like me to do a tutorial on this on my YouTube channel (find that here), just leave me a comment and I will try get that done for you. I know writing it down isn’t as easy to understand as seeing it done for yourself in a video format. Let me know what you think of this look! Tanzina x
