MAC Amorous Review

I have slowly accepted the fact that winter is here. I hate the cold, and I especially hate de-icing my car (it is the worst chore ever), but I will be honest I really do enjoy changing into my winter wardrobe, and reaching for more winter appropriate makeup. I start shying away from my brights and warmer toned shades, and start reaching for the darker and cooler tones for my lips. I have recently been giving a lot of attention to MAC Amorous, so I thought I would do a MAC Amorous review for you today just in case this shade tickles your fancy as well. To be honest Amorous is a year round shade, I just give it a lot more love in the winter months.

MAC Amorous is described as a ‘lovestruck cranberry’ shade, and although I really like the sound of that description it doesn’t really mean much in terms of describing the shade. I would say it is a rose tinted mauve shade, it definitely looks deeper and darker on the bullet but when applied on the lips it comes out rosier. There is a purple hue to it but it is not overpowering. On my skin the shade translates darker, but on my lips it is slightly pinker. I think this shade would suit a whole range of skin tones and not just my own warmer skin tone. I think on fairer tones it would be the perfect deep pink toned winter lipstick but if you are bold enough, you can rock it all year round.

The finish of this lipstick is Satin, which I surprisingly really like. If you’ve read my blog for a while you’d know I a huge matte lip fan, the matte-er it is, the more loved it is, so it was surprising how much I enjoyed this finish. It is not too shiny and glossy like other non-matte lipsticks, instead it is very moisturising and there is definitely a semi-matte finish to it which I obviously love. It is more obvious in person, and also in the above swatches on my wrist. The colour is opaque, meaning no unflattering patches when you apply it and it is a very comfortable wear. For me this lasts about 4 hours if I am eating, and around 6 if I am not, before it needs a touch up. It does last quite well, and doesn’t achieve that horrible lip outline fade that other glossier lipsticks get.

On the lips I think the shade varies on me, depending on what lighting I am under. I have inserted a few pictures of me wearing it below in differing lighting, but unfortunately I didn’t manage to take a picture in direct daylight as it gets dark really early in UK currently. The pink tone is really obvious on my lips, as well the mauve purple shades. I love applying a dark liner first such as MAC Burgundy, and then applying the lipstick on top to achieve a gorgeous deep mauve shade which suits this time of the year perfectly.
