I’ve been recently reorganising my lipstick collection, and marvelling at how many lipsticks only get used a few times a year and others get repurchased over and over. Today I thought I would do a MAC Ruby Woo review, as this is hands down my most used lipstick ever. For the longest time I used to wear a red lip like others wear nudes, pretty much on a daily basis. Nowadays I do switch it up a little more, but I always go back to the classic red that only Ruby Woo can provide.
Let’s talk colour, Ruby Woo is a pretty classic Marilyn Monroe kinda red, very pinup girl, very classic. I would say it is a medium red, it isn’t too light and it isn’t dark, and it has very cool blue undertone to it. It is a beautiful red, that suits so many skin tones and looks exceptionally good on warmer skin tones I think. The formula is very matte, it is after all the original MAC Retro Matte finish, and it applies opaque in one swipe. The formula is quite thick as well, and it doesn’t seem to emphasis on any dry skin you may have. I think that’s another reason why I use it so much, I know I can apply it whatever state my lips are in!
I find the wear to be quite good, it is only after a meal I get some fade, so without food it would last pretty much all day, after 8 hours at work it is still sitting pretty on my lip. I love how full coverage it is, no hint of uneven application or patchiness here. Personally I don’t find it to be drying, but I can see why some might, but as I am so used to wearing this and other matte lipsticks and find it to be very comfortable to wear.
I’ve inserted a couple of pictures of me wearing this lipstick on Eid day for reference (you can have a look at my makeup for the day here, and outfit here). I was ridiculously happy to see that MAC added a Ruby Woo lip liner to their permanent as that just made my life so much easier, I now don’t have to be as careful when doing the edges of my lipstick as the liner does that for me. I also get more wear with a lip liner underneath – not that I need it. I’ve also done a short review on the lip liner here.
There are many reasons why I love Ruby Woo but the main reason is that is just looks really good. Not just the colour, but the way it sits on the lips as well. If I were to get married, as long as my dress doesn’t clash with the colour, I can see myself wearing this lipstick on my big day. By the way, please don’t laugh and how blunt I’ve made my lipstick, I don’t know how I’ve managed to make it so flat but I have!
I hope you have liked my MAC Ruby Woo review, this is definitely a shade I can see myself picking up over and over again. I actually also picked up RiRi Woo when it came out and I use that a fair bit but it is pretty much the same colour. I’d love to know your most used lipstick, I think you can a lot from someone’s favourite shade.
