My get fit journey is going so slowly, if it was a vehicle it would be a rickshaw going up a very steep hill powered by a leprechaun. It really is that bad. In the beginning of March this year I went to Portugal on holiday, and I think over a two week period I put on almost a stone in weight. I am still around 7-8 pounds away from my ideal weight, and that is not taking into consideration the toning up process. I thought I would today talk about a few things I have been doing and things I would like to do to help me reach my goal by the end of this year.
Working out clothes
Would you believe me if I told you I never owned a sports bra up until a few weeks ago? Well you should, because it is true. I always assumed that a sports bra wasn’t necessary for me and it was more for women who are a little more gifted in the chest area compared to me. However it is so comfortable compared to a normal bra, and I like layering vests with sports bras and feeling like one of those fit girls from Instagram (the ones I would love to look like!) If you are like me and are satisfied visually, I would highly suggest treating yourself to one nice set of exercise clothes with the promise of more if you keep it up. Shopping is always a good incentive!
I have done the whole Legs, Bums and Tums classes and I even attempted 15 minutes of a spin class before I thought I was dying. My stamina is really pathetic and one of those classes leaves me in so much pain that it completely puts me off going again. I clearly need to work on my stamina before I can get the best out of exercise classes as I think I am in the category before a beginner. So I have been going along to classes I know I will enjoy, such as trampolining. It is so much fun, although I am terrible at it. The benefits of jumping on a trampoline are pretty amazing, and it’s also super fun! I get so scared of being up in the air, and my balance is all over the place but I enjoy it which makes me want to go back again and again. I would suggest finding something you enjoy and build up your stamina that way. I also enjoy going swimming but that is so much maintenance as I have to straighten my hair afterwards as my hair is a frizzy mess after it gets wet (now do you understand why it is taking me so long to get fit?)
Work Out DVD
After reading reviews online, I bought the Charlotte Crosby 3 Min Belly Blitz workout DVD. Honestly this is so good, and if you are one of those people who doesn’t like leaving the house then this is the one for you. I don’t break a sweat easily, well I never used to, but this has my clothes soaked in no time. I feel really bad as I haven’t been sticking to it, but I will get back into it. Talking about sweating, since we are on such a lovely topic, the Sure Shower Fresh/Cotton Dry Motionsense Antiperspirant has been a bit of a lifesaver for me. It really does keep my underarms dry, I wish they would come out with a whole body one so I could keep dry all over. The technology behind it is that it bursts special capsules of antiperspirant when you move, so you get bursts of freshness as you exercise. My brother who plays football very regularly loves the Men’s version. He says he doesn’t need to reapply it like he did with his previous antiperspirant, so it feels like it lasts longer and a little goes a long way.
Yoga and Yoga Mat
Now this is something I would like to start doing. I would like to get into yoga and get a lot more flexible. There are lots of YouTube videos that can help you, however I have been eyeing up Yoga with Adriene as I find her voice so soothing. I wouldn’t say yoga mats are a necessity but I have been using one with the Belly Blitz DVD and it is much more comfortable than my carpet. I think it will be even more useful once I start doing yoga, and they are very cheap and affordable. If you wanted to focus more on the at home DVD I would say pick up a mat to go with it.
Another thing I would like to do: walk. It sounds so simple doesn’t it but ever since I started driving a couple of years ago, the amount I walk has become very pitiful. I downloaded the Map My Run app a while back and after a year of not attempting a single run I have deleted it to free up space on my phone. I have now downloaded the Map My Walk app and hopefully that will get used this time round. There are lots of useful free apps you can use, I have also downloaded the 30 Day Squat challenge to get me a little firmer in the bum area. Google best fitness apps for your phone and see what catches your attention.
When it comes to fitness, beauty comes second. It is not about the perfect contour nor the seamless blended shadow, instead it is about comfort. When it comes to swimming Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream is everything. I apply it around my nose, and all over my lip and it genuinely helps in stopping those areas drying out. The product is like a moisturising barrier that doesn’t disappear after 5 minutes. I can imagine this being a life saver against harsh winds later on in the year when* I start doing my walks/runs (*when not IF)
Finally last but not least, water. A few months ago I was drinking 2 litres of water a day but now I am unfortunately down to around 300ml a day which is really bad. Water is so important in maintaining your health and I am ashamed to admit that I sometimes forget that. I am definitely going to try and up my ante with drinking water, if you wanted a pretty bottle to drink out of I would suggest the BKR bottles which I spoke about here.
Woah, almost 1000 words later I am done! If you got to this bit well done, give yourself a pat on the back. I really hope this was useful/interesting to some of you and I really hope I manage to stick to getting better at getting fit. It is less of a weight loss thing for me and more of a lifestyle change, but it isn’t going to happen overnight. I will try to stick to it and do an update post in a couple of months. Let me know if you have any helpful tips and tricks, Tanzina x
