Some of you may already know that I adore a red lip. It is my go to bold lips and my lipstick collection has amassed quite a few red tones over the years. There is one thing I love more than a red lip and that is a matte red lip. Today I thought I would share with you all the creamiest, most moisturising red matte lipstick I have come across and I have to admit it is something pretty special.
Matte and moisturising were two parallel words in my book, especially as I tend to use MAC Ruby Woo, which is a very dry matte lipstick. Of course I have come across ‘matte’ moisturising lipsticks in the past but typically they are rather satin, and tend to slip and slide. I wanted something that didn’t enhance every crack and dry patch on my lip but also something that has staying power. Well it was a need that Elizabeth Arden decided to deliver on, and I was introduced to the Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Moisturising Lipstick in Bold Red. What makes this lipstick pretty special is just how moisturising it is. I feel like I have put a lip balm on and it is no surprise considering the products used within it. This is what Elizabeth Arden have to say :
- Flexible Satin-Pigments: matte, pure pigments are encapsulated in an emollient protective film allow for a comfortable, non-drying suede-like finish.
- 12 hour wear: a fade-resist complex keeps colour true for up to 12 hours.
- Maxi-lip™: boosts lips with a 60% increase in moisturisation, for fuller, healthier, plumper lips.
- Smoothing Butter Complex: a natural trio of Mango, Shea and Murumuru butters infuse lips with nourishing, conditioning and soothing oils, whilst Argan Oil and Vitamin E provide antioxidant protection.
Now due to its beneficial moisturising attributes, this lipstick is not going to stay on your lip as long as an extremely dry textured matte lipstick, such us MAC’s Retro Matte finish Ruby Woo. However I feel like I have found a solution to combat that. The first thing I do is I line my lips with a matte red lip liner, and then apply the lipstick on top and this ensures staying power. In the swatches I only applied lip liner to the outline to help shape the lips (as I pretty much always do) but I find it works better if you fill your whole lip in with liner. And then voila, your long lasting AND moisturising matte lipstick solution is here. I find this to have about 6-8 hour wear with possibly one touch up depending on what you eat that day! But overall I am impressed and now want it in Raspberry which looks like a bright fuchsia pink.
This lipstick comes in 5 Shades and they retail for £21 each. You can pick it up here. (And currently at Boots you can get a free gift when you buy 2 selected Elizabeth Arden, 1 to be foundation)
If you get a chance to visit an Elizabeth Arden counter do try it out and test the formula to see if it is something you would like. But please do not apply a used tester straight to your lip or hand, as working on a beauty counter has taught me you never know where that could have been! Instead ask for a cotton bud which counters usually have a scrape it lightly along the bullet of the lipstick. This will get you a more hygienic deposit of the product to swatch. Happy swatching!
I also created a red toned smokey makeup look with this red lip which I will hopefully share with all in the next few days. I hope that you will like it! Until next time loves, have a great day. Tanzina x
