bareMinerals BareSkin Foundation Review

One of the most common beauty questions I get asked is what foundation do your wear/like? Quite a simple question , but one I have difficulty answering. You see the issue is, it is so hard for me to like any as foundations do not seem to match me well. I have decided I have an abnormal skin tone, it is just so yellow. I know it doesn’t look like it from first glances but every time I have had a makeup artist/counter try to match me that is what everyone says, and although foundations match slightly, they always dull my skin tone and make me look darker, greyer or sallow(er). There are a couple of foundations that have done the job for me, but I was resigned to the fact that I wouldn’t find the perfect match. So to answer the question; I rarely wear foundation and I like Estee Lauder Invisible Wear and Benefit Hello Flawless but nothing is just.. right. Until now.

I feel a little like Goldilocks, trying different products and always finding something that prevents it being just right. Too orange, too red, too heavy, too matte… the list is endless. My requirements are, something light as I am not used to wearing foundation so I like it  to be quite natural. And something ‘yellow enough’. I doubt I will ever find ‘the perfect match’ unless I borrow the foundation of a Simpson cast member, but I have come pretty damn close. This is the bareMinerals BARESKIN Pure Brightening Serum Foundation in Bare Honey. I actually matched this to myself in a dimly lit John Lewis beauty counter, and I was slightly worried it wouldn’t match when it arrived. There is only so much you can see under florescent lighting. When I finally got my hands on it, I was ridiculously excited to see if this foundation might just be the one for me, for I had seen Daniel Sandler talk about the product on Instagram saying he uses to add a yellow element to foundation shades. I do love a bit of Daniel Sandler advice.

Normally I am very patient with products, I wait until it is daylight to try them out but not  with this one. Once I got home around 8pm, I quickly started applying it. It matched my skin so well; I couldn’t really believe it was working so well. Usually I can get foundations to match me but it does take a lot of buffing into the skin, but this seemed to match without even blending it in. Is this how the rest of the beauty consumers feel… the feeling was so foreign to me! The next day I tried it out on daylight and it is fair to say I fell in love even further. If I made my own custom foundation, this would be it. Possibly a tad bit more yellow but very similar. It is so light and airy, and sits so comfortably on top of my skin that I sometimes forget I am wearing it. It blends silkily into my skin, and it really is my skin but better – as corny as that sounds. The product is described to be tone correcting and brightening and on that aspect it does deliver. I have been using it with the bareMinerals Perfecting Face Brush brush, and I’m sure that aids getting this result. The brush is so easy to use, you jus pop a couple of drops into the centre of the brush and buff away. The problem I have faced with light liquid foundations (such as Estee’s Invisible Wear) is that they just disappear into the bristle which means I need to dispense more foundation than I actually use. With this brush it just sits perfectly on top and you don’t waste product. The bristles are soft, and it doesn’t get dirty easily. Result!

Now if you are looking for a heavy duty full coverage foundation unfortunately this isn’t for you. But if you like me, are looking for something light and natural looking, and are especially struggling to find a colour match due to yellow tones in your skin, I highly recommend trying this out. I still think there is a huge gap in the market for all tones of warmer skin tones, they usually don’t cater for the many variations of skin tones and I am glad to see BareMinerals bridging the gap. People like me are itching to spend our money on a good match; we are just waiting for you to bring the product to us.

If you would like to try this foundation you can pick it up here for £26.00. The brush retails for £24.00 and you find it here. Alternatively pop along to your local John Lewis and get yourself matched, you might find your ‘just right’ foundation.

I hope you liked hearing me rave about this product, I did have to stop myself at points from just blabbering away. When I enjoy a product it is quite obvious, and with this one it really was! Let me know if you have any recommendations or would like to know more details of the makeup look I created in the above pictures. Love, Tanzina x

  1. I have the same exact problem as you do when it comes to foundation. Although I did find the shade Barcelona in NARS’ Sheer glow foundation matching me quite well, the formula isn’t long lasting and 3-4 hours later (with primer on, without it’s worse) my t-zone gets shiny and by the end of the day I have no product left on my nose. I’ve been keeping an eye on the Bare Minerals one but I’ve read that it was a tad oily and that it transfers ? How many hours did it lasted on you ? (What’s your skin type for reference by the way ?)
I’m really curious about this foundation !

    • Hi lovely, if I’m honest I haven’t really tried out the wear over a full day. I had it on for 4 hours and it seemed fresh however I think I do need to trial it out and report back. That being said my skin is more on the dry side so I think it may stay better on drier skin than others. But I have noticed if I have dry skin it does cling to it but every foundation I’ve tried does that so I don’t know if that is just normal or not. I think I will EVENTUALLY do a compare post and report back on wear. If you message me on Twitter @makeupatoz next time I wear I’ll let you know how it lasted xx

      • I’ve combination skin so finding a suitable foundation is so hard, my cheeks are really dry and the rest is normal (during winter here in Paris) but Sheer Glow tends to oil it up. I’ll keep that in mind and try to comeback and ask you up on twitter ! Thank you for your reply
