Hi loves, today I have a little bit of different post for you all, something I haven’t written for quite a while. I used to be subscribed to beauty boxes in the past, both Glossybox and She Said Beauty box however due to my out of control beauty spending habits I had to make some sort of beauty cut backs and the boxes had to go. Some of my very first blog post (which were both poorly written and photographed) were about what is in my box but I’ve been quiet on the subscription box front for some time now. That changes today.
I introduce you to Glowwboxx – a beauty subscription service aimed at women of colour. I love how in recent times, that segment of the beauty market is being more and more catered for and it is nice to see that a subscription service has recognised that. Glowwbox say ‘whether your Black, Asian, Mixed or another beautiful brown hue, join the beauty box that will leave you feeling special, valued and acknowledge, every month.’ I think that message and the concept behind the service is actually needed in today’s evolving beauty market. Now onto the box itself, it is packaged really nicely; a grey box with pink writing, simple and effective. The products inside are housed in grey scribbly bits (clearly the correct terminology there!) and wrapped in hot pink tissue paper. The packaging definitely gets a thumbs up from me.
Now on to the products, Glowwbox promise 4 or 5 beauty samples each month worth over £25. When I opened it, I’ll be honest I did expect at least one big sized/full size product and the fact that there wasn’t one did disappoint me slightly. However then I saw a Popband, a soft stretchy no-dent hairband which I have had my eyes on for a while. The one I got was bright pink, and I am actually wearing it today and matching it to my pink lips! This was definitely a good find for me; I knew I would get a lot of use out of it.
Next was a makeup product, a little sample of a Mica Beauty Mineral Eye Shadow. As I am a makeup kinda gal, I’m always up for trying different brands and products and Mica Beauty wasn’t one I had tried before so this was a good way of discovering it for me. That is the whole point of a subscription boxes right, trying new brands and products. The colour I got is No.8 Tease, a super shimmery peach gold shade which I think would actually work really well as a highlighter on women on colour. Of course you can use it as an eyeshadow but I think it will look really nice on the top of the cheekbones and collar bones too in the summer when shimmer is slightly more acceptable. I’m looking froward to trialling this out.
Next there was a hair product, a sample of BeUnique Bamboo Monoi Milk Hair Cleanser. This is a brand I haven’t yet heard of however I am interested in trialling it out. My hair starts to get quite a bit of build up in recent days but I don’t to use strong clarifying shampoos that strip the hair. This promises to cleanse the hair shaft and scalp without stripping essential moisture from the hair. It does sound promising so I’m looking forward to giving it a whirl and see if it works for me. Plus it is the perfect size to travel with, always a plus!
The final two products are skin care products, now I’m quite happy with my current skin care routine so I wasn’t too interested in these two products to be honest however looking into it a bit more my interested is piqued. These are the Beauty Beauty Vita C Peptide Serum and Vital Recovery Concentrate samples. The first is a serum formulated to deliver a high dose of Vitamin C and essential nutrients to help reduce hyperpigmentation and giving radiance to the skin. I think my skin does sometimes look lacklustre so a bit of radiance won’t hurt but like I said my current skin care products can provide that too. The latter is a light moisturiser – I think I’ll pass this one as I have more than enough moisturisers to keep me going and I am too faithful to my Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream!
Overall I think it is slightly hit and miss, however all boxes are, as what might tick my boxes might not work for someone else. That is something that we should keep in mind when ordering subscription boxes. I personally would have liked a little bit more makeup products, a bit more colour that would compliment darker skin tones, however I think that is to come in future boxes. This box actually does hit makeup, skin care and hair products so it is quite well rounded and I would recommend trying this out for those interested in beauty sub boxes. I was most excited about trying the Pop Band and am now going to order a set as they have actually worked really well for me.
If you are interested to try Glowwbox you can pick it up here for £10.00 a month and £3.95 for P&P. The good thing is you can cancel whenever you like, so if it isn’t for you then that’s fine too. Let me know your thought, would you like to see more posts like this? Tanzina x
