I’ve been uuming and errring about making this post, I knew I would probably make a couple of beauty fanatics jealous but concluded that it might make a few people keep their eyes open for some similar beauty bargains. The post is about my best beauty bargain to date, which features the Illamasqua Mystery Box. Now the Illamasqua Mystery Box is a bargain by itself, £38.00 for over a £100 worth of products but no I didn’t pay that price.. I scored the box for a mere fiver!
It was by complete luck that I stumbled across this AMAZING bargain. Quick sum up of the story: I was working on Black Up Cosmetics for the day about two months ago in Debenhams Oxford Street. The girls I was working with told me that apparently there were some Mystery Boxes going for five pounds, so I rushed over after my shift to see if it was true. And lo and behold yes it was! There were only about five boxes left, as all the Debenhams staff were buying them as it was such a good deal. I don’t think many customers actually bought them for themselves. Now the story gets better, because the boxes were open I was able to see what was in my box AND the girl serving me let me pick and mix between the five boxes to create a box that I was truly happy with. Naughty right?! Not that I was complaining, what an amazing opportunity. That works out less than £1 for each product, 83p to be exact. I wish there had been more boxes but after I selected my box they were all snapped up. Let me show y0u what was in my box.
Now lets start with what the box promises you. A liquid metal (cream shadow) and a nail polish. The liquid metal is in the colour Electrum, a rich antique gold cream eyeshadow which I find very useful. I already own this beauty, I got in a previous Illamasqua Mystery Box (which you can read about here) but I have no qualms about having another as I can just pop this one in my makeup artist kit. It is usually £17.00 but is currently on sale for just £10.00 here as Illamasqua are having a summer sale. (They were when I wrote this post!)
The next item promised is a nail polish, however as you can see mine is not the pink the box dictates. Like I’ve already told you I did mix and match a bit and I’m not sure whether there wasn’t a pink or maybe I though I already had many pinks but whatever the reason I opted for this purple called Faux Pas. Now this is a very appealing pretty colour that I would definitely wear and has a rubber finish to it. It is described as a blue violet and is usually £14.50 but today again it is on sale for £7.50. You can have a look at it here.
These next two products are a powder blusher and a powder eyeshadow. The powder blusher that caught my eye was Panic which looks very scary in the pan for most people – an almost neon red. However when applied with a light hand it creates a lovely flush and blends out really smoothly. It is extremely pigmented, a little really goes a long way and I am really happy with it. I can’t seem to find it by itself on the Illamasqua site, usually blushes retail for £18.00 but you can pick it up here with a Gleam called Aurora a highlighter for £36.00.
Next is a powder eyeshadow again in red called Predator. Now I don’t have any red eyeshadow in my collection and yes you can blusher as shadow but this had a really nice pink undertone to it which was quite unusual in shadow and blush so I succumbed and picked it up for my box. I can see myself using this both as a blush and shadow. Unfortunately I think this is a discontinued shadow as I can’t find it online however powder shadows usually retail for £15.50.
The box promises a lipstick, and when choosing the products for my box I only had two possible lipstick choices. One was a bright neon orange that I knew I never would go near and the second this gold lipstick named Trash. Now Trash and Electrum, the liquid metal, are very similar in colour so maybe it was a mistake to pick this up however that being said I’m looking forward to playing around with this and create looks with it. This product definitely is the one I’m least excited about however thing you can work a lot with it, lipsticks can be used anywhere not just lips! Lipsticks usually retail for £16.50 and I think this is another discontinued item.
Now onto the lipgloss, this is the one I am most excited about. I’ve actually seen a few people wearing Succubus and really was coveting it, I lusted over the bloody finish it gave and wanted to wear it by itself and over my much loved MAC Ruby Woo. Succubus is such an apt name for this colour I think too, hats off to whoever came up with that. It means a vampire like being of the night, I clearly read too many books! It’s really rich is pigment and so glossy. I love it and will definitely get great wear out of it. It is ALSO on sale right now, usually priced at £14.50 but is in the sale for £7.50. You can pick it up here, I’m tempted to pick up another one.
I am ridiculously proud of myself for picking up this steal, I feel like I’ve sort of wronged Illamasqua by picking up over £90 of products for a mere £5. That is ridiculous right?! I wish bargains like this come along more often. I think I will live the rest of my life attempting to beat this amazing bargain. I am slightly dramatic, yes I know, I actually won the Drama Queen award in high school. Yes, it’s one of my most prestigious achievements. The box is actually on sale right now for £19.00 (here) and is usually £38.00 so again still a good deal but not as great as mine hehe. This is my second mystery box and each time I’ve been pleased so I definitely would recommend giving one of these a whirl! Take care lovelies!
