I’ve heard many great things about NYX and its definitely been a brand I wanted to get to know better, they offer such a great range of makeup goodies but they are also notoriously hard to get hold of. If I could choose any makeup brand to be readily available in the UK right now it would definitely be NYX. However during a recent expedition to a trade show called UMAe (United Makeup Artist Expo) and I managed to grab quite a few NYX offerings. I thought I would share the lipsticks I picked up with you today.
Now I am a HUGE lipstick lover. I never used to be a lipstick fanatic, more an eyeshadow gal but that obsession has been siting on the back burner for the past year or so whilst my love of lipsticks has exploded all over my lips. My favourite lipsticks are from MAC and I’ve amassed quite a few as you might be able to tell from the picture below. However they are quite pricey to collect and I’ve heard so many great things about the NYX ones that I had to pick up one or two …okay four!
I opted for colours I don’t have in my collection, and coincidentally they all happen to be pink based. I’ll quickly talk you through them below. Before that, lets just talk about consistency. They’re all very creamy, and have a typical lipstick staying power of moisturising lipstick – meaning they last just fine until something touches your lips. If your looking for a lipstick that looks untouched after you’ve ate, drank and kissed your sweetheart this is not it. But they’re not matte finishes either, so you can’t really expect them to last all day long. However they are rich in pigmentation and you only need to reapply a quick swipe and you are done.
So starting with the brightest. I choose a bright pink red called ‘Fire’ which is very pigmented and unlike any colour I have. Fire is a rather misleading name, makes me think of fire engine red. Instead it is a gorgeous pink based red. But regardless of name choices, this is a beautiful colour I am happy to own.
The next three are quite similar, but that’s a choice I made on purpose as I had a gap in my collection for light pinks. I introduce you to the brightest which is ‘Fig’. It’s a shade that’s quite hard to describe its neutral but a little bright and a rose pink with slight pastel undertones to it. It’s not something I usually wear I’m not a light pink wearer but this might just change that.
Next we have ‘Tea Rose’ which is much lighter in colour. This is actually a really popular shade from NYX along with the next shade. It’s a lovely light pink with a semi-matte satin finish and I’m looking forward to creating a few looks with this. It’s really pigmented and shows up well on my lips.
Finally we have ‘Talia’, another popular shade. This I would say is the darkest of the three pinks but still a light flattering dusty pink shade on me. It’s a pink brown and on me is a my lips but better kind of colour so quite neutral and pink nude like for me. In certain lights I think I can pick out a slight plum shade to the pink. I think this will be a great accompanying a mean smokey eye.
Overall I am really happy with my NYX Round Lipsticks and definitely will be purchasing more. I’m think maybe a few coral based shades? I don’t think I need any more reds but I probably will cave into my unhealthy cravings and purchase a few red shades too. Nothing beats a bright red lip in my books – speaking of which I’m penning a post on an amazing cult red lip product which you should keep a lookout for! I also picked up quite a few NYX lip liners and I am converted. A post coming up on that soon too!
You can pick up NYX from their website here, which I will be trawling after writing this and getting my next fix as there are like a million shades (slight exaggeration due to excitement). The lipsticks are priced at £3.50 a pop! Bargain! Let me know if you pick up any shades. You probably will find swatches of me wearing shades on my instragram which is @makeupatoz or on twitter.
