Some of you may already know that I tend to shy away from make up bases, and am often left feeling dissatisfied using them on myself. I’ve tried many different types, be it liquid, powder, cream and even mousses however I struggle to find one that leaves me thinking yes, I could happily use that without any complaints. I am quite fortunate and don’t really get any breakouts but I would like to have the option of an even toned flawless base for my make up looks and get slightly jealous that I can find makeup bases for my makeup clients when I do makeup artistry but not for myself. Well, last summer I found a game changer – the Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid Foundation.
Having watched multiple YouTube channels and read reviews, devotees of Estee Lauder Double Wear are fiercely loyal to this range of makeup. This must be worth the hype.
Everyone has different requirements for their skin, and expect different things from foundations. I want really light coverage that looks like I have nothing on, something that doesn’t dry my already dehydrated skin out and finally something that actually manages to match my skin tone and even it out. I really struggle with finding colour matches, and I think that has been a huge reason why I haven’t delved into the world of foundations for myself much. I’ve tired high street and high end foundations and have been left disappointed. I don’t want to mix three bottles to find my exact colour! My struggle is that I have a LOT of yellow undertones in my skin and most foundations kill that rather than enhance it. I happen to like the yellow so erasing it makes me feel unhappy.
I always knew Estee Lauder had a great colour range and actually have used Double Wear foundation on brides and makeup clients before as many people love that foundation. However I didn’t realise they paid such close attention to undertones and address the needs of ethnic skin tones, something that a lot of brands neglect. I matched myself to an NW41 and haven’t looked back since. I actually haven’t purchased any other brand’s foundation for myself as nothing tempts me away. It matches me perfectly, it seems to almost adapt to my skin tone and doesn’t attempt to take away my natural yellow undertones. I only decided to read into the foundation now just to research what makes it special and this is what Estee Lauder say:
‘Invisible Fluid Makeup is a true innovation because it delivers a veil of visible invisibility to every skintone, working with each person’s natural undertones for the ultimate shade match. Acting like a weave on skin, the formula allows skin’s undertones to come through, giving the appearance of natural skin, but in a way that is radiantly, naturally and uniquely perfected’
I honestly feel like this foundation was made with my needs in mind! I’ve been using it for about a year now on special occasions and photo shoots and without attempting to brag it does leave my skin looking flawless. It feels really light on the skin, and blends really easily too. Usually when I wear a makeup base I just feel like wiping it off as it feels so heavy on my skin however with this one I forget I’m wearing it. It really has changed the way I think about foundations and I’m just grateful that wearing a foundation is actually an option for me now. I’ve used this for clients as well and recommended it to quite a few of my friends who also struggle with the same issues that I do and I’ve always had good feedback. It’s also great for younger makeup wearers who are a bit scared of going heavy on the foundations but want a good quality foundation to try. You give the bottle a few shakes (this is very important as it lets the air mix with the fluid) and you are ready to go. I’ve added a few pictures of me wearing it in photo shoots and make up looks just so you can see how well it looks when photographed.
There is a HUGE range of colours at Estee Lauder and I’d definitely recommend for you to try them out. They retail for £27.00 and if you go here you can get free delivery and 2 luxury samples. I love it when brands do that!
Estee Lauder have also just launched a new product, The Invisible Fluid Powder Makeup that compliments the Fluid Foundation. It is made to wear both by itself or as a finishing powder, and I think it might work perfectly as a finishing powder for the foundation without ruining the undertones of the original product. It’s a great way to build up coverage. The formula itself sounds really interesting, a new gel formula base that I am excited to test out as all the gelee products EL have been launching have really been impressing me. I haven’t had a chance to actually look at the new shade range of Double Wear foundations that Estee Lauder have launched over the past year and I think it may be worth a look as I will be freelancing quite a lot over the summer and it might be great for my kit. The majority of my clients are of ethnic origins, mostly Asian, and I think I Estee Lauder may just meet their undertone needs! I shall keep you updated.
The Invisible Fluid Powder Makeup is out now, retailing for £29.00. You can find it here
